Delta Capacity and Strioga Family Foundation have signed an agreement to acquire the Ready-to-Build battery energy storage project from Helios Nordic Energy in Finland. The project adds 300 MWh to Delta Capacity's growing Nordic portfolio, with commercial operation scheduled for 2027.
Delta Capacity, a Swiss-based developer of utility-scale battery storage systems, and Strioga Family Foundation, announced a strategic partnership to jointly acquire the Karppio battery energy storage system (BESS) project, a 125 MW / 300 MWh project located in Teuva, Finland, from Helios Nordic Energy.
Delta Capacity will lead the remaining development of the project through to commissioning, planned in 2027, and will serve as long-term asset manager.
The project was acquired as a ready-to-build (RTB) asset from Helios Nordic Energy. It has a capacity of 125 MW and 300 MWh, corresponding to a 2-hour duration system. Once operational, the Karppio BESS will provide grid flexibility to Finland's power system, supporting frequency regulation and balancing services as the country's share of wind and solar generation continues to grow.
The transaction adds to Delta Capacity's growing Nordic portfolio, following the completion of the 70 MW / 160 MWh Ånge BESS in Sweden earlier this year, currently the largest battery storage system in operation in the region. Delta Capacity has nearly 1 GWh of storage under construction and is targeting more than 6 GWh of flexible assets in operation by 2030.
This marks Strioga Family Foundation's entry into the Finnish energy storage market and reflects its continued commitment to supporting the energy transition through investment in critical energy infrastructure across Europe.
The partnership combines Delta Capacity's development and asset management expertise with Strioga Family Foundation's long-term investment approach, building on Helios Nordic Energy's origination and development of the project to date.
